10 Most Ridiculous Doctor Who Rumours Ever

8. Britney Spears And The Sex-Mad Clones

It's not unprecedented for pop stars and other "non-actor" celebrities to appear in Doctor Who. Singer Katherine Jenkins was in the 2010 Christmas special, and Kylie Minogue was in the 2007 Christmas special, to name just two examples.

So, around ten years ago, it wouldn't have been total bonkers to hear the rumour that Britney Spears was being considered for a role, but it would have been total bonkers to hear that this role was "a raunchy bunch of sex-mad aliens".

And that's exactly what The Daily Star reported back in January 2007, adding that then-showrunner Russell T Davies was a "huge fan" of Spears, and that he wanted her to play "an entire race of lusty cloned creatures who all look identical".

While this would've been highly entertaining to witness, it didn't actually happen, and to date, the closest that Spears has ever been to Doctor Who is the "Toxic" scene in the Ninth Doctor episode The End Of The World. Absolute classic.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
