10. Caspere's Wounds Are Nasty

Viewers got a first real look at the injuries sustained by Ben Caspere, Season 2's main victim, and they were graphic to say the least. The Vinci city manager had both of his eyes burned out with hydrochloric acid, thought to be administered in a very precise, deliberate fashion. This immediately indicates some kind of torture. Additionally, and more shockingly, he also sustained a shotgun blast to the groin, a wound which visibly shocked the three officers. This apparently triggered the heart attack that resulted in his death. Although True Detective is never light on sadism, the grisly state of Caspere's corpse reveals that his killer didn't merely want to murder his victim - they wanted him to suffer too.
