3. Hodor (Game Of Thrones)
One of the most traumatic and horrifying deaths this year happened at a moment when people least expected it.
When Brandon “Bran” Stark opened the door for the White Walkers into the Three-Eyed-Raven’s cave, he and all of his friends had to make a quick exit. Losing Bran’s direwolf, the Three-Eyed-Raven and a Child of the Forest making their escape, the group was finally able to make their way to the back door and get out into the frozen forest.
Unfortunately, for their oversized companion Hodor, escape was not in the cards. While he was psychically travelling to the past, Bran also warged into Hodor and somehow affected him as a child. While he was connected to Hodor’s mind, Bran overhead Meera yell to Hodor to hold the door (the back door to the cave).
This tragically translated into “Hodor” being the only word he could say and thus sealed his fate. While Bran and Meera made their getaway, Hodor gallantly held the door as he was ripped apart by Wights trying to get to Bran and Meera.
His terrible demise shocked and horrified viewers as they watched a fan favorite character die painfully in front of their eyes. In the following days, several memes and videos were shared over social media as people became traumatized whenever they were asked to “hold the door”.
