10 Most Terrifying Deaths In Modern Doctor Who
2. Her Name Was Joy
For seemingly no reason other than to intimidate Amy Pond, a Silent's brutal murder of an unsuspecting bystander in the White House became one of Doctor Who's most horrifying moments.
2011's The Impossible Astronaut saw the Eleventh Doctor and his companions in search of the mysterious Silence in the late 60s. Entering a restroom in the White House, Amy Pond was met with a Silent - a creature she had seen before but had forgotten about.
This was part of the Silence's unique survival capabilities - each Silent possessed the ability to make victims forget they ever saw them if they simply looked away.
Also present in the restroom was a White House staffer, who immediately presumed that the Silent was someone wearing a Star Trek mask. Turning away, she forgot the creature existed. Warning her of its presence, Amy watched the staffer clock the Silent again before forgetting once more. Realising she wouldn't be able to warn the woman, Amy watched in horror at the Silent's next move.
Raising a hand and releasing an electrical discharge, the Silent disintegrated the woman in front of Amy - bursting her like a balloon. Shocked by its actions, Amy was unable to move as the Silent simply remarked 'Her name was Joy.'
Chilling.
