Lost in time stories often have the potential to be some of the most beautiful a viewer could hope to enjoy. There is just so much to delve into and showcase as people are temporally displaced and must now find a way to adapt to their new surroundings. Outlander does all this and then some.

Here we begin with a former World War 2 nurse who is on a holiday with her husband at a Scottish beachside. But while Claire Randall was hoping for the beautiful waves to carry away her stress, she is instead taken back in time to 1743, right in the middle of the Jacobite Risings.

Claire encounters a group of Scottish Highlanders who are on the run from the British. They take Claire in and soon she has to marry one of them in order to survive. Subsequently she does start developing feelings for her new husband Jaime.

The show incorporates numerous plot twists and conflicts, some of which definitely push the levels of brutality up a notch, managing to cover almost every major theme of the era and how Claire deals with it. In the end, every narrative thread is tied up in a nice, heartfelt manner, leaving viewers with a tear in their eye and gratefulness for having hopped on board for the ride.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
