10 Most Underrated Sci-Fi/Fantasy Shows
5. The 100
As far as post-apocalyptic stories go, it doesn’t get any grimmer, and enthralling, than this. The 100 shows an earth that has been devastated by a nuclear holocaust, you know the normal stuff. But this show does a lot more than the usual cookie cutter plot of people fighting over scraps or battling robot overlords who have taken over the world. Here, the last remnants of humanity are living aboard a space station orbiting the earth.
However the space station, aptly named the Ark, could only sustain its population for so long. After three generations, scarcity of resources kicks in and the leaders are scrambling for a way to ensure the survival of mankind. In their desperation, they decide to send a 100 young delinquents on an apparent suicide mission to earth. Their task; find out if the radiation levels have subsided enough to support life once more.
When they do get to earth, the supposedly doomed group are shocked to find that there are those who survived the apocalypse. Three different groups of humans, or at least part humans, now inhabit the planet and none of them are pleased to see the new arrivals.
The 100 must survive all kinds of threats to try and somehow establish a foothold for those relying on them. It is an amazing tale of survival that perfectly captures what it means for an entire group to face extinction, as well as exploring numerous unique aspects of politics and manipulation.
