5. 9-1-1: Lone Star

It seems that, no matter how many cutting-edge cable and streaming shows we get, network TV can always rely on its procedural dramas to entertain viewers. And 9-1-1: Lone Star is no exception to that.

The 9-1-1 spin-off premiered on Fox earlier this year, serving as something of a midseason replacement for its parent show and it somehow managed to garner higher viewing figures than it ever did (its premiere episode brought in a whopping 11.41 million viewers). Oh sure, they dropped off to around 5 - 7 million once the network positioned it in its normal slot, but it managed to hold onto those numbers for its entire run - something that is nearly unheard of in this day and age.

Starring Rob Lowe and Liv Tyler, it follows the fire, police and ambulance departments of the 126 in Texas. Though it functions well in its adventure-of-the-week format (like all procedurals do), it features an admirably diverse cast and offers up some nice character work - specifically in regards to Lowe's charismatic Captain Owen Strand (a firefighter battling cancer), Tyler's Michelle Blake (a paramedic searching for her missing sister) and, most interesting of them all, T.K. Strand - a recovering addict looking for a new beginning as part of his father's new fire crew in Austin.

Considering 9-1-1: Lone Star had one of the most-watched premieres of any show in the past five years, more people should really be talking about it. And with only 10 episodes in its debut offering, it effectively left us wanting more. Thankfully, we're gonna get it in Season 2.
