10 Most Uplifting Star Trek Moments

8. Sisko Meets Kirk - Trials And Tribble-Ations

Trials And Tribble-Ations Star Trek
CBS

This episode is a good feeling from star to finish. Produced for the express purposes of celebrating the franchise as it reached thirty years old, the crossover of Deep Space Nine with the Original Series was the tie in that fans never knew they needed.

The two series were worlds apart while still existing in the same universe, with the Original Series and its serious-yet-campy fun and Deep Space Nine's dead serious tone. This clash of tones set them far apart and when it came to bringing them together it had even more of that old fish out of water setting than any of the other iterations.

Dax serves as historian and expert throughout the episode, introducing and correcting her crewmates where needed. She remembers McCoy's 'surgeon's hands' and expresses her attraction to Spock. It is a lovely little twist on the usual Kirk-the-ladies-man theme.

There are many moments to love from this episode and the bar room fight could easily hit the top spot in any list. However, there is that moment at the end of the episode that just brings it all together. Sitting in front of temporal investigations, Sisko smiles and tells them about a moment that just had to happen....

William Shatner and Patrick Stewart starred together in Star Trek Generations and, depending on who you ask, it was a success. But, here, Captain Kirk is met by Captain Sisko, without any intrusion to the timeline. Sisko isn't the commander of an Enterprise - he is like us, a fan, getting to meet a hero in his prime. It is lovely.
