It's not too hard to see why this episode was watched by so many, with the deliberately misleading title and concept enticing so many viewers. And not only did it look like we would be getting a farewell for Tennant, but we looked set to get close to a full episode to get to know the next Doctor. While many twigged on to the likelihood that there was more to come from Tennant, the idea that David Morrissey, his co star for this 2008 Christmas special, would be the new Doctor appeared to be more likely than not.

Unfortunately this wasn't the case on either front. The episode was solid enough for a Christmas Who story, which was suitably over the top for the festive season. It didn't exactly break any new ground though, with the Cybermen being a decent threat that was too easily overcome.

It was also a great shame that Morrissey wasn't the new Doctor as he seemed perfect for the role while also bringing something fresh. Thankfully Matt Smith did a top job in the role, so there was really no harm done other than duping the audience.
