10 New TV Shows Of Fall 2017 Guaranteed To Succeed
2. Young Sheldon
The Big Bang Theory has been a seemingly quality-proof show for several years now, so it stands to reason that people will watch Young Sheldon regardless of how terrible it is. No matter what other factors are at play, the show owes a huge amount of its success to the Sheldon phenomenon.
Sheldon is an abrasive yet somehow weirdly likeable Aspergers-y physicist played by Jim Parsons, and The Big Bang Theory could probably survive any cast member's departure from the show but his. Hes basically this show's Urkel, complete with his very own intensely marketable catchphrase. But all good things must come to an end, and NBC is certainly keeping an eye on the future, trying to smoothly transition into their lineup a replacement for their prize pig.
That's where Young Sheldon comes into the picture. (Not exactly an inspired title, but you can't have everything.) If it was another character on the show, it might be a little iffy. But audiences have proven an almost unlimited capacity to watch the hell out of anything to do with Sheldon. Even if Young Sheldon only gets a certain percentage of the vast Big Bang Theory audience, that's still going to be a pretty significant viewership.
