10 Oddly Wholesome South Park Moments
6. Mr. Adler Moves On
Tweek vs. Craig (Season 3, Episode 5)
While the rest of the school obsess over the titular fight, shop teacher Mr. Adler comes to terms with the death of his fiancée. He initially recalls happy memories of a live-action woman (assistant writer Pam Brady). However, her death soon plays out ruining his reminiscence. His fiancée died while piloting a skywriter, which exploded and crashed, leaving her to drown in the ocean. The juxtaposition of clips from her life and death is vaguely unnerving.
Mr. Adler composes his suicide note, tragically addressed “to whom it may concern”. He says farewell to the cruel animated world and lays down on a table saw. The fight bursts into the shop class, interrupting his plan. However, Kenny is maimed when a machine flings him into a box of rusty nails.
As he dies in Mr. Adler’s arms, Kenny’s face becomes a screen through which the dead fiancée communicates. Mr. Adler finally gets his chance to say goodbye, however, she points out it is not the goodbye that matters but the time they spent together. The scene packs a significant punch for a B-plot centred on the love life of a background character.
