10 Problems Nobody Wants To Admit About Peaky Blinders
2. The Show Doesn't Handle Its Villains Very Well
Aside from Sam Neil's electric run as Major Campbell can you name one decent antagonist who actually gave the Shelby's a run for their money?
With the very gracious exception of Adrien Brody's Luca Changretta, no you can't, and even that is a bit of a stretch given just how easily outmanoeuvred he was in the finale of series 4.
Alfie Solomans can't count as an out-and-out villain because he doesn't do anything except betray Tommy and even then he always says sorry, Paddy Considine played as a shady priest who SHOCK HORROR turned out to be a paedophile, and even Sam Claflin's fabulously moustached Oswald Mosley viewers with even a hint of historical knowledge (or Googling skills) will know he isn't going to come up on top because of a small thing called history.
The show has had some amazing actors appear in these roles and give truly credible performances, yet thanks to the master-crafted plot armour worn by Tommy, the impact they have made has been rather limited in terms of drama, and this doesn't look likely to change much in the future.
