3. What Is Up With All The Rape
When it's not being totally sexist by making almost all of its female characters running around half-naked at the very least, Game Of Thrones is making half of its viewing audience uncomfortable by featuring so much rape. Like,
so much rape . Any depiction of non-consensual sex is arguably unnecessary; but the amount in this show is just kind of insulting. The series actually features even more rape then the books, and they're not exactly shy when it comes to such abhorrent scenes. Why exactly the writers chose to change consensual copulations for violent encounters is unknown, but it smacks of a certain misogyny that there are multiple incidences of such a thing happening. Considering it's a crime that struggles for legitimacy in courts even today, and it affects a significant amount of women around the world, the blasé attitude Game Of Thrones has towards rape is a major problem. The first sexual encounter between Daenerys and Khal Drogo, the recent controversial scene with Cersei and Jamie: consensual in the books, not in the show. Changes the whole thing, and not for the better.
