10 Reality TV Shows That Question Your Supernatural Beliefs

4. Paranormal Cops

A group of Chicago police officers fight crime by day, and hunt the paranormal by night! They are the CPD, the “Chicago Paranormal Detectives”! Now doesn’t that sound like the synopsis for the most kick-ass comic book ever? Yeah! It’s just too bad somebody decided to go the television route instead, otherwise this show might have been something worth remembering.

“Paranormal Cops” was an anomaly. Airing on the A&E Network in 2010, the main hook of this program was much different from all the others... follow a group of police men who investigate spooks and spectres in the same way they would investigate real crime scenes. Sounds great! Unfortunately, audiences weren’t buying, and the show was cancelled after one season.

And it’s odd too, because looking through this list, the majority of these programs have had several seasons, and even some spinoffs! So you know you’re not hitting any of the right buttons when you’re cancelled after only six episodes. Maybe viewers believed it too close to “Ghost Hunters” (just replacing plumbers with police)? Or perhaps it was too niche, taking place only in the Chicagoland area rather than all over the country? It certainly couldn’t have been ghost show overload, because there’s still a boatload of these damn things on the telly.

Most likely, it was due to this being a terrible show that most didn’t know even existed, and those who did, thought better of tuning in.
