10 Reasons Dexter Is The Greatest Ever Screen Serial Killer

8. I Will Be Your Father Figure

Harry Morgan Normally a great killer loses some of the magic when we learn their backstory. Hannibal Lecter lost some of his luster when we learned about his childhood. John Doe from Seven remains one of the greats because we know jack about who this guy is. From the beginning, we have been given bits and pieces of Dexter€™s backstory through his interactions with Harry, and even thought it was a gamble, it works beautifully by giving us another dimension to Dexter€™s personality. Like any good teacher, coach or Zen master, Harry recognized the talents of this up and coming superstar and trained him to be the best. He was going to make sure the adopted son he loved was going to stay alive even if that meant other people had to die. It almost comes off as a sick twisted version of Superman's origin. Because of Harry, Dexter was able to channel his desires. Yeah, yeah, so Harry went and killed himself after witnessing Dexter€™s talents brought to the surface, but who is to say it isn€™t the same as an artist plucking his eyes out after creating a masterpiece because they will never be able to top perfection? Ok, maybe that€™s a stretch, but what the hell did he expect?
