10 Reasons Maniac Is The Best Netflix Original Series Since Stranger Things
2. Jonah Hill and Emma Stone
Last seen together over 10 years ago in Superbad, Jonah Hill and Emma Stone are far from what they were then. If Maniac shows anything, it's that both actors have matured tremendously into great performers.
They're two of the biggest reasons why the show has gotten so much publicity, and rightfully so. Stone and Hill bring their A game here, with Hill possibly putting in his best work yet. Hill's Owen is remarkably subdued and damaged, always selling an inner paranoia/dialogue going on through his eyes. Stone's Annie doesn't make the best first impression, initially coming across as selfish and mean-spirited, but there's more to her than that. You'll see the cracks in the tough-girl persona that then break open and you understand why she looks for escapes from reality, as well as the caring heart inside.
Each one of them is required to do so much due to their constant "personality shifts" and they never lose the authenticity for a moment. This is a show heightened massively by the performances and it just wouldn't have been so effective had it not been for these two.
