10 Reasons To Greenlight Star Trek: Janeway NOW

8. Janeway Was Just Getting Started

As delightful as it was to see Janeway in Star Trek: Prodigy, her new adventures were cut short.

When it became apparent that there would be no third season of Prodigy, we lost more than a creative Star Trek show, full of fresh ideas and inspiration for young (and older) fans. We lost the chance to see Janeway sign off with style.

While the finale to Voyager was a great time-travel escapade that saw the crew finally outmanoeuvre the Borg and return home, it ended so abruptly that it left many a fan wanting more. We'd spent years following their intrepid journey home, so when we were left with little more than a majestic shot of Voyager flying towards Earth, it didn't feel like enough.

Janeway's return in Prodigy was a chance to write another chapter of her story. And although the part we got was thoroughly enjoyable, it's unfinished. Even Kate Mulgrew was reportedly furious with the premature end to the show, and quite rightly so. This unfulfilling and frustrating ending wasn't the send-off that any of us were hoping for.

Not only does she still have so much more to give, frankly, Janeway deserves better than to be left in limbo.

Katherine has been boldly going since childhood, when the BBC Two 6pm Star Trek slot changed her life. She was drawn in by the franchise's optimism, compassion and flair for character-driven storytelling. She's been writing stories since she could pick up a pen and has spent far too much time immersed in television, films, books, music and theatre. She loves any chance to talk or write about her favourite fandoms, of which there are many. When not busy writing, she can usually be found playing video games or explaining why the concept of a transporter is actually terrifying.
