10 Reasons Why Better Call Saul Could Be As Good As Breaking Bad
5. It Strikes A Perfect Balance Between Drama And Dark Comedy
One thing Breaking Bad handled perfectly throughout its entire run was striking a balance between drama and comedy, albeit comedy of a rather dark variety. Moments of high tension were offset by moments of light relief, and this was handled in a way which never felt incongruous or out of place. Given that Saul Goodman provided a degree of comic relief in Breaking Bad, it was fair to assume that Better Call Saul would veer towards the humorous more than its predecessor, but it's to the creator's credit that they have avoided going too far down the comedy route. As amusing as it is to watch McGill smooth-talking his way out of a sticky situation (his encounter with Tuco is exceptionally well handled), the writers are more than aware that the weight of the narrative lies in the dramatic qualities. Better Call Saul's balance between these two tonal forces so far has been every bit as perfect as in Breaking Bad.
