While the actual ending of the show was what fans considered divisive, this was the moment that did pay off universally, the scene fans had been waiting to see for nine years.

After leaving Barney and Robin's wedding, Ted sits in the rain at Farhampton station, and finally plucks up the courage to talk to the bass player standing with the yellow umbrella on the platform.

Set to a beautiful rendition of 'Downtown Train' by Everything But The Girl, it's a beautiful moment between Ted and Tracy (The Mother's name being revealed at this point) as the pair finally get acquainted and realise they've nearly been bumping into each other for years. It's also quite heartbreaking as we know by this point what Tracy's fate is, and while you want to be happy for the pair in this moment, it's a tearjerker to know what lies a little ways down the road.
