10 Reasons Why The Boys Was Better As A TV Series
3. Hughie Isn't As Whiny
The show’s lovable resident loser and the team’s newest member, Hughie, has several major differences to the comics version. He's American now, Simon Pegg is now his Dad rather than him, and he actually brings something to the team that isn't incessant moaning.
In the original comic, Hughie was more of an unwitting stooge who was often pressured into the more violent aspects of his job by Butcher. We still see this in the series, with Butcher’s insistence that Starlight is a threat and his attempts to manipulate Hughie away from her. However, the series version of Hughie is more filled with righteous anger after the death of Robin, choosing to kill Translucent rather than killing due to peer pressure.
Hughie’s tech wizardry is also highlighted throughout the series, such as his bugging of Popclaw’s apartment. This gives Hughie a concrete role within the team, rather than just Hughie’s lackey.
As Annie and Hughie are the heart of the show, it’s nice to see the characters being given more depth and exciting to see where their character arcs progress as Starlight may become a mole for The Boys within the Seven.
