10 Rick & Morty Fates Worse Than Death

3. Seeing All The Ways You're Going To Die

In the Season 4 premiere, Rick takes Morty on a quick excursion to collect a supply of Death Crystals. These ominous-sounding minerals allow you to see all the potential ways you could die (in high-definition, mind you).

Sounds scary enough on its own, but it's made even more terrifying by the fact that the deaths shown to you change depending on your actions in real-time. Rick uses this property to outsmart a couple of alien grunts in a shootout, by using the changing death predictions to tell him when it's safe to open fire.

Morty, on the other hand, is much less practical. One of the deaths he foresees involves him lying in bed at a ripe old age while his high-school crush Jessica tenderly comforts him with the words "I love you, Morty".

Desperate to will this fate into reality, Morty stops acting rationally and simply follows the path that will lead to this vision coming true, completely ruining his life (and others) in the process. He's blinded himself to reason and ignored the life in front of him just to get a good ending. Turns out knowing your death in advance can make you value mortality even less.
