10 Roles That Showed Doctor Who Actors In A Completely Different Light

1. Matt Smith & Billie Piper - Secret Diary Of A Call Girl

They were one of the most loved Doctor-companion duos of all time; Ten and Rose Tyler took the dynamic to places that it barely been explored before, and when they were separated, it was heartbreaking. The Tenth Doctor mourned his best friend, and nearly-girlfriend, for two whole series, never quite getting over losing Rose. Imagine how heartbroken he'd be if he realised Eleven slept with her. Before he was cast as the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith appeared sporadically across TV, appearing opposite (and in bed with) Billie Piper in Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Piper famously played an escort in that series and Smith made a quick appearance as a client; and looking back on that particular episode, it's somewhat surreal to see Rose and Eleven in bed together. Luckily, the two characters are nothing like their Who counterparts, or it could have got a bit weird; Piper is eloquent, well-educated and enjoys living her double life, whilst Smith is nonchalant about his shop job, latching onto Piper's character Belle after their one-night stand. Commenting on which Doctor was the better kisser though, Piper claimed that it was definitely the passionate Tennant, as Matt was "Just sex." That's got to be a knock to his confidence.
