10 Saddest TV Character Exits That Made You Cry
9. Wanda Pierce - BoJack Horseman
BoJack Horseman has always been supremely well written, especially from season two onwards. Importantly the jokes land, but the character development is on a level unheard of for an animated show too. Wanda's departure is an exemplar of this, delivering two absolutely golden lines.
Their relationship is under pressure because of Diane living in the BoJack household but also because of BoJack's depression and general lack of enthusiasm for anything. Wanda, being a relative newcomer, chalks these up to Diane's influence, though regular viewers know better.
BoJack then delivers a perfect commentary on the situation; 'You didn't know me. Then you fell in love with me. And now you know me.' This searing summation of the dating world when everyone is playing their own little role is powerful, and shows BoJack vulnerable, seeing himself as damaged, worthless. This exit isn't sad because of Wanda necessarily; characters like Vincent Adultman left and were much bigger fan favourites. She doesn't leave a void when she goes, she reveals the void that was in BoJack all along.
She gives as good as she gets too, departing on 'when you look at someone through rose-coloured glasses, all the red flags just look like flags'.
