10 Scariest Characters In Horror TV Shows

9. The Gentlemen - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

While Buffy The Vampire Slayer was mostly known for its unique campy brand of horror, the season 4 episode Hush proved the show could go further into the realm of terror.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer utilised the "monster of the week" trope to perfectly blend different genres and stories into the overarching slayer plot. Season 1 famously switched up the show with a strangely hilarious episode that followed the male student body falling in love with an undercover giant praying mantis. And season 5's The Body decided to swap out the monsters altogether for the real horror of losing a loved one.

It was Hush that really pushed the show's boundaries to give the audience probably the most famous episode of the show to this day. As night falls, the voices of Sunnydale's residents are stolen by a group of pale, skeletal and immaculately dressed strangers. These horrifyingly gleeful men that hover through the town are The Gentlemen, and they have fuelled the nightmares of Buffy fans for literal decades, and for good reason.

Maybe it's the way they float above the ground instead of walking, maybe it's the stiff, unflinching grins plastered firmly on their sunken faces. Or maybe it's the way they hunt down and carve out the hearts of their victims with scalpels while they try in vain to scream. Whatever it is, The Gentlemen will remain an icon of TV horror.
