4. Believe
Every once in a while a show comes along with a premise I completely adore, and Believe (NBC - TBA) is one of those shows. Another J.J. Abrams/Bryan Burk production (along with Alfonso Cuaron), Believe is about a little girl - Bo - born with special abilities that not even she can control. Taking cues from any self-respecting sci-fi show, the poor girl is in danger from a number of forces who would choose to exploit her because of her abilities. Enter Tate, a wrongfully convicted inmate on death row, who catches a break when he's broken out of prison and given the charge of protecting Bo. Are you beginning to see why I adore this premise? No? Let's look at it this way. A story about a young girl's relationship to an older "father figure" in her life is not something we usually see in television. After all, shows are supposed to be riddled with romantic sub-plots to please the masses. God forbid the two leads be in a completely platonic relationship. Because of Believe, we have a chance to experience a show about a simple evolving friendship and the effects it has on two polar-opposite individuals. Please tell me you're excited now, too.
