10 Shocking Deaths That Changed The Walking Dead

6. Tomas

The Death: After nearly being killed by Tomas while they cleared out zombies in the prison, Rick cooled the situation down before driving his machete into his head. How It Changed Things: Rick is our hero, so we naturally side with him, and especially considering he was provoked, his actions are defensible. Still, it€™s hard to call this anything other than a pre-emptive execution. Regardless of how deplorable Tomas was, the act shows how far Rick had already come. Remember, he was a cop, someone who upheld the law, and now, with very little consideration, flat out murdered another person simply because he felt threatened. In exploring Rick and company€™s descent into savagery, we realize that while walkers can be a threat, sometimes the rationalizations that people make are even more frightening. We see this thread rear its head again when they kill Gareth and the remaining Terminus members in the church, but that all started with Tomas. Plot-wise, it€™s also impossible to ignore Tomas€™s death because it lead the other prisoner Andrew to flee, This would then start of a chain of events that occurred in Killer Within, where a massive horde of zombies attacked the prison, resulting in massive death and destruction..
