10 Shows You Didn’t Realize Were By Seth MacFarlane

4. The Winner

The reason you may not remember an early 2000s television sitcom called The Winner is because it might have canceled before you ever got around to taking a peek. Only six episodes into its first season, FOX pulled the plug on the Seth MacFarlane comedy after low viewership and poor critical response.

The show was about a 43 ½-year-old man-child named Glenn Abbott who constantly reflected on his 30s, particularly when he lived with his parents in Buffalo, New York. The show was criticized for its obnoxious laugh track and also received reviews such as “dreadful” and “abrasive” by The Miami Herald and New York Times, respectively.

Aside from a few moments of wit, the show’s overall narrative was considered repetitious and dull, and much of the humor failed to tickle viewers at home, aside from those who enjoyed the occasionally sophomoric gag. In 2007, MacFarlane was confident enough as the producer to insist there was a chance for The Winner to have a long life. Ironically, it was cancelled within the same year and has yet to ever be reanimated after its cringe-worthy death.
