10 Smartest Brooklyn Nine-Nine Characters

6. Terry

With Terry's position as Sergeant, we don't get to see him flex his detective muscles quite as often as the rest of his squad, but when called upon has proved that he is still just as sharp as ever. He couldn't have ever risen to the rank as he did without being one of the smartest cops in his unit.

Greatly effected by the birth of his twin girls, freaking out in a department store and shooting at a mannequin, Terry's time at his desk and away from the action allowed him the time to improve his leadership qualities. No one on the squad knows more about motivating people, and getting the best out of his team than Sergeant Jeffords.

One of his greatest moments in the show came after being mocked for years by his old precinct for suspecting a man in a wheelchair of committing crimes with the help of his cat. Twenty years later, Terry once again looked into the case and was vindicated by finding out that he had been right all along.

Not only is he fluent in Japanese thanks to spending time there in his youth, Terry has also worked out the perfect balance between his growing family and responsibilities at work, which not many are able to do so well.
