10 'So Bad It's Good' Classic Doctor Who Stories
6. The Time Monster - 1972
This next story has a plot that sounds like an episode of Rick and Morty rather than Doctor Who. 1972's The Time Monster has the Master, using a device named TOMTIT, attempt to take over the mythical city of Atlantis.
Over the course of six episodes, the story sees the Master eventually being crowned King of Atlantis, and the Doctor facing off against a Minotaur in order to save captured companion Jo Grant. The story also features some unknown science fiction royalty (at the time), as behind the mask of the Minotaur was future Darth Vader actor David Prowse.
The Time Monster must be seen to be believed, providing some of the biggest laughs in the classic series for all the wrong reasons.
This story also introduced a new TARDIS design which producer Barry Letts absolutely hated. Coincidentally, the new set was mysteriously damaged, and was never used again after this serial's production. It doesn't take much imagination to figure out the culprit...
