10 'So Bad It's Good' Classic Doctor Who Stories

7. Meglos - 1980

See and enjoy the Fourth Doctor becoming a cactus in this absurd serial from 1980! Although quite an interesting concept, Meglos sadly falls under the category of accidentally creating pure comedy gold in its execution.

The story features a Doctor at the end of his tether. By Season 18, Tom Baker was done with being the Doctor, and it certainly shows, with him injecting a lifeless performance into an equally lifeless script. Meglos also attempted to include plenty of science in the scripts, which created some of the clunkiest and most confusing dialogue in the show's history.

The serial was originally going to be titled The Last Zolfa-Thuran, but was then changed to the equally-odd Meglos early in production. Expect many drunken tongue-twisters such as Zastor, Tigella, and Zolfa-Thura throughout this oddly short serial, with three of the four episodes running well below the 25-minute standard.

The scenes with the cactus transformation are a sight to behold, and are the hilarious high points of this ill-fated story. That said, one redeeming feature is the return of Jacqueline Hill, the actress who played original companion Barbara alongside William Hartnell.
