1985's Timelash is a really interesting story. Unlike many on our list, this serial is incredibly ambitious, but unfortunately fails miserably at achieving these ambitions and instead gifts us with one of the best 'so bad it's good' pieces of media in history.

The story features the Doctor being sent into the titular Timelash, a time tunnel-turned glorified Christmas decoration which is literally made of silver tinsel. The Doctor is then transported to Scotland in 1885 where he befriends a young man named Herbert, who accompanies him back to the planet Karfel.

Once back at Karfel, the Doctor sets about rescuing companion Peri from the clutches of the planet's evil ruler, the Borad, who is horribly mutated after an experiment went badly wrong. Borad's second-in-command, Maylin Tekker, is the source of most of the laughs in this story, with Paul Darrow turning the camp-ometer up to eleven.

Just when the story couldn't get silly enough, Herbert leaves behind his calling card on the TARDIS. It is then revealed that Herbert is actually sci-fi author H.G. Wells, and this whole experience with the tinsel Timelash becomes the inspiration for his novels.
