10 Spooky Doctor Who Episodes

4. Night Terrors

Just as the Doctor picks up an odd distress signal, a child back on Earth tries to get sleep, despite being frightened of almost everything, from his toy cupboard to under the bed - but as he lays imagining these terrors, his nightmares start to come true. This episode plays nicely on children's bedtime fears, when everything in a bedroom can take on a ghoulish look in the wrong light, and the creepy peg dolls in the giant dollhouse are beautifully designed. The juxtaposition of the modern estate and the worried down to earth father, with the child's Victorian like nightmare and the Doctor's usual quirkiness really works. Meanwhile, the heartfelt emotions at its core take you on a real roller-coaster ride to not only add substance to the spooky tale, but make you root for a truly happy ending.
