10 Star Trek Burns That Still Sting

7. You Can Start By Doing Something About Your Breath

Star Trek Kira Nerys
CBS

As the sixth season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine opened, the Dominion and the Cardassians had occupied the station. Though they refused to call it an occupation, they were poised to take control of the Bajoran sector and to continue the fight against the Federation. However, closer to home, Gul Dukat was finding that winning over Major Kira wasn't proceeding very far at all.

Deluded as he was by his own brilliance, he calls her to his office and taunts her, while flirting with her. She is having absolutely none of it, keeping the meeting as short as possible, reporting on the events as requested before turning to leave. Dukat, revelling in his superiority, insists that he hasn't given her permission to leave.

She sighs and he gets very, very close to her. This is a man who, the last time he was in charge of Bajorans and particularly Bajoran women, took many of them as slaves. He almost murmurs to her that he could make life very pleasant for her on the station. She smiles and responds:

You can start by doing something about your breath.

Dukat has beyond a nothing chance of anything ever happening with Kira, something that everyone except him seems to spot from a mile away.
