American film director Quentin Tarantino, famed for such works as 'Reservoir Dogs', 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Django Unchained' turned down a minor role as himself in season 8. The Simpsons producers approached the controversial and outspoken star about making a guest appearance but he rebuffed their advances as he felt the dialogue was not to a good enough standard. The role he was to play was in Itchy and Scratchy, the 'cartoon within a cartoon', in an "episode" called 'Reservoir Cats', one of the few Itchy and Scratchy shows where Scratchy doesn't die a horrific death. In the episode, which was a pastiche of Reservoir Dogs, Itchy throws gasoline over Scratchy and cuts his ear off, in a scene reminiscent from the 1992 classic. 'Tarantino', voiced by Dan Castellaneta instead, then walks on screen and says, "What I'm trying to say is that violence is everywhere, man, it's like even in breakfast cereals man..." and is promptly decapitated by the mouse and the cat.
