10 Superhero TV Shows That Completely Missed The Mark
3. Wonder Woman (2011)
Wonder Woman is irrefutably one of the iconic superhero characters. The Amazonian Goddess has a rich backstory and has seen several famous big and small screen instalments. Gal Gadot most recently proved that female superheroes are badass. Yet, even Wonder Woman isn’t impenetrable to a bad reboot.
In 2011, Warner Brothers and Ally McBeal creator David E. Kelley announced plans to relaunch a Wonder Woman TV series. It all seemed primed and ready to be a success with the legendary 1970s Wonder Woman Lynda Carter declaring her support for her heiress to the lasso Adrianne Palicki.
However, much like Denzel Washington in Flight this pilot was flawed. Cited as a “reinvention” of the classic DC Comics, Wonder Woman here would be a vigilante, fighting crime in Los Angeles, whilst also being an affluent corporate executive. The story lacked depth with only lip service paid in some clumsy dialogue to her background as an Amazonian Goddess or even the fact she hails from the island of Themyscira.
Pedro Pascal who was Wonder Woman’s police department liaison in the unaired pilot, has been cast in the upcoming Wonder Woman 1984. The acclaimed actor seemingly the only thing that worked about this tepid attempt at a reboot.
