10 Superhero TV Shows That Completely Missed The Mark
4. Powers (2015-2016)
Spidey senses of any movie fan go off when video games are announced to be undergoing silver screen adaptations. So, the tables turned when PlayStation announced their first venture into scripted original programming.
Once again, the premise was strong, Powers taking place in a world where humans and superheroes co-exist. The protagonist Christian Walker, once a superhero (known here as a ‘Power’), is forced to reinvent himself as a homicide detective due to his powers being removed. Walker is an Investigator in the Powers Division that unsurprisingly investigates Power related crimes.
Powers heralded a detailed universe, with superheroes presented as caped crime fighters and popular celebrities with specialised ad agencies. But the show suffered the Kryptonite of many promising superhero shows. It was too slow and unforgivingly bland.
Powers did survive two seasons, but the lack of spark showed that PlayStation should stick to games.
