5. He Directed More Than "Just" Star Trek Movies
All Trekkers know that Leonard Nimoy directed two Star Trek films - Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). Most also know that he helped write the superlative script for The Voyage Home, a not unsurprising achievement for a man with his considerable talents. But Nimoy's behind-the-scenes input into Trek didn't end there - in 1991, Nimoy also became the executive producer and co-writer of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, arguably the finest of the Star Trek films. What fans may not know is that Nimoy didn't only sit in the director's chair on Star Trek film sets (not that there's any shame in directing films as touching and inspiring as those in the Star Trek franchise). He also directed the successful comedy Three Men and a Baby in 1987. Nimoy, with tremulous humility, referred to asking to direct as "going for the gold ring". Audiences were simply happy that someone as talented as Leonard Nimoy was doing the job.
