10 Terrible Episodes That Almost Ruined Great TV Shows

5. Dexter: Remember The Monsters?

The Simpsons Worst Episode Ever
Showtime

Dexter was definitely was going downhill for a while, but for the most part, the later seasons weren't really bad enough to retroactively ruin what came before. They were boring and sometimes really dumb, but usually not that bad all things considered.

And then you have the series finale, Remember The Monsters, which calls into question if it was even worth it to start watching this show in the first place. It really is one of the worst hours of television ever, which left just about every fan feeling frustrated and disappointed.

Much of Dexter's arc throughout the series was seeing if he could manage to lead a normal life despite his murderous tendencies, and if he might be able to leave those behind one day. Over the course of the season, we see Dexter gradually changing to the point that he seems like he might be able to move on.

And then in the finale, he completely abandons his child, runs off in a boat, is presumed dead and becomes a lumberjack.

If the writers wanted to end things in a dark way, that's fine. But here, the last episode just feels so rushed, poorly thought through and immensely unsatisfying.
