2. Modern Family
Again, its one of those cases that the show just hasnt settled into itself. Of course, it takes a show a while to realise who its main players are, and Ty Burrell, as the hapless yet hilarious Phil Dunphy, is definitely the main player in Modern Family. It is also apparent that the writers havent quite nailed how to utilise the 'mockumentary' style narration. I was watching a season four episode the other day, and they dont rely too heavily on it. It is used largely as tool to signal the inner opinions of the characters, contrasted with what they actually do, or say, in front of others. The pilot attempts to do this, but they waste too much time trying to explain everything, as opposed to letting it speak for itself. Once they get into the groove of things, the show itself becomes much more fluid and the comedy appears much more natural.
