10 Terrifying Supernatural Monsters That Kept You Up At Night
2. The Scarecrow
In terms of creature design, the first season of Supernatural is a treasure trove of eerie goodness. The Scarecrow highlights this better than any other creature on this list. Introduced halfway through the shows first season, the Scarecrow is a vessel inhabited by Vanir, a pagan god, who's cult followers offer up human sacrifices to him. However, the design of the Scarecrow itself is what makes it the stuff of nightmares.
Using practical effects and costume design, the Scarecrow is made up of the flesh of its previous victims/human sacrifices, all of which are stitched onto a beautifully horrific scarecrow form. Paying homage to classic 1980s slasher villains, the Scarecrow kills its victims with a scythe, pursuing them through the tall, dark cornfields in the dead o night.
Due to The Scarecrow only having one episode in the show’s 15 season run, it’s a testament to the episode that it is still talked about in the Supernatural community to this day.
