10 Things Hannibal Does Better Than The Movies

8. An Intelligent, Skilled And Capable FBI Unit

What really stands out in Hannibal is that it isn't just the lead hero that is clever, skilled and intelligent. If anything, Will Graham is one of the most flawed characters on the show. Sure Dr Alana Bloom may have been clueless to her mentor and boyfriend's antics, but the rest of the FBI unit aren't idiots. They have the skills, knowledge and intuition to follow the clues on the cases they investigate. Interestingly the revelation that Hannibal was a serial killer who had been feeding his friends human meat wasn't a cliffhanger in the final episode of season two. It was a slow build up as Will, then Jack and finally Alana began to piece the clues together before it all came to a head in that bloody confrontation. In the movies, the FBI agents were less noticeable. Jack Crawford was presented well in Silence Of The Lambs and Scott Glenn delivered a strong performance but the other characters never made the same impact as Hannibal, Clarice or Will. In the show every one in the FBI unit has depth, personality and skill. Jack Crawford is a much more powerful character, central to the events taking place rather than just reacting to them. He balances reason with his desire to engage Will's skills to help solve his cases. As for Angela, it was no surprise that she pieced the clues of Hannibal's true nature well ahead of the season two conclusion, even if that led to her tragic death. Of course, Hannibal is the master of deception and it was only right that he ran rings around the FBI for so long. That is what makes him such a great villain.
