If you're a fan of a particular show, there's a good chance you wouldn't mind if it continued for as long as possible. After all, you watch it because you like it, so wouldn't more of a good thing be better than losing it altogether?

As it happens, no, it's not. TV shows are character-driven stories, and like any story, there's a beginning, a middle, and an end. Pushing it for longer than is necessary only serves to undermine the creativity that went into making the show in the first place, and in the end, it's not really what the fans want.

The worst examples of shows continuing for longer than they need to are often the result of the original creative team's departure. After all, they told their story, so their leaving makes sense, but the studio wanted more, and that's when these situations go from bad to worse.

Two and a Half Men was once the best sitcom on TV, but after Charlie Sheen departed, that should have been the end of it. Fans notice when the quality of their favorite shows drops exponentially, making it difficult to pay attention and enjoy.
