10 Things That Every Doctor Who Fan Is Waiting For

2. More McGann

This countdown has already briefly mentioned the Eighth Doctor's shock return to our screens in 2013 but you probably would've come after us with pitchforks if he hadn't been awarded a more substantial position on the list. Well... here it is! In other words, put those pitchforks down. The return of this Doctor is the one that every Doctor Who fan is waiting for. Not that you'll need reminding, but Paul McGann reprised his iconic role for the 50th anniversary prequel 'minisode' The Night of the Doctor and it's no exaggeration to say that his unannounced comeback pretty much tore the stratosphere of the Doctor Who fandom apart... and then some. The Whovian community had been told to expect the unexpected in the build up to the show's momentous landmark festivities but this was pretty much the surprise to end them all as he returned to bridge the blurred gap between his incarnation and Christopher Eccleston by regenerating into John Hurt. Last seen at the helm of the TARDIS during the 1996 movie, the TV film was to be the Eighth Doctor's first and only televisual escapade as a proposed pilot to reboot the series which, for whatever reason, ultimately went down like a lead balloon. He has since lived on in the form of his highly popular Big Finish audio adventures but until this moment (and oh, what a moment it was!), the Eighth Doctor hadn't been seen in the flesh since his ill-fated inception back in the mid-90s. His return was followed by the inevitable surge of requests vying for a more permanent return. Rumours suggest that he'll feature in more minisodes to coincide with NuWho's 10th anniversary later this year but - for the time being, at least - that's all just speculation. It would be great, though, wouldn't it? There's life in the Eighth Doctor yet.
