It's a-comin'. Probably. Since Doctor Who's return in 2005, it has been a widely known fact - one even acknowledged by the ninth, tenth and eleventh incarnations of the titular Time Lord himself - that the Doctor was forced to destroy Gallifrey, and subsequently his entire species, in order to bring an end to the Time War once and for all. As of The Day of the Doctor, though, time has been rewritten. It does that. As it turns out, though, the Doctor didn't blow Gallifrey to smithereens after all so he can sleep easy in the knowledge that his guilty conscience has been saved. In fact, he joined forces with all of his past - and even one of his future - incarnations to preserve the planet within the confines of a handy pocket universe (or something like that, anyway) and just in time for the Time Lords to grant him a new regeneration cycle, too, which was handy. This does also mean that "Gallifrey Falls No More" which is a pretty exciting concept as far as the development of the show's mythology is concerned. Just when and how the Doctor will locate its new whereabouts remains to be seen but thanks to Missy's cruel lie in the Series 8 finale, he isn't even one step closer to finding his way home. Thus far NuWho has only given viewers a handful of tantalising teasers about the former might of Gallifrey's empire but it looks like its long overdue comeback is finally on the cards. Will they be restored to their former glory? Will they accept the Doctor with welcome arms or will he put on trial once more? Find out next time (though admittedly it probably won't be next time, or even the time after that...) on Doctor Who where at least one thing is definitely for sure. This one will be the worth the wait. What did you think of this list? Is there anything else that Doctor Who fans are waiting for? Let us know in the comments section below.
