3. A Female Doctor

Some fans are waiting for this while others just... well, aren't. It's one of the most hotly debated issues in TV history and one that continues to dominate Doctor Who discussions in both social and traditional media. The formidable questions (Is it time? Will it ruin what the show stands for? Is Doctor Who sexist because it's never attempted it?!) will probably be thrown about for as long as the series is on our screens... or until the first female Doctor is cast, whichever comes first. Suffice to say, there are strong arguments for both sides of the equation. The biggest in favour of the TARDIS recruiting its first female Doctor is that the show just needs to stop being so bloody sexist while the opposition would say that the titular Time just isn't a woman so why would he ever become one? It's a fair point and likening the role to James Bond is an easy get out but a worthy comparison nonetheless. At the end of the day, nobody really knows whether or not the Doctor will be female because, contrary to popular belief, none of us are actually physic. Usually if something is talked about enough, though, it ends up happening eventually. Besides, the show's recent reveal of Michelle Gomez as the first female Master has only helped set the wheels in motion in regards to a similar transformation taking hold of our leading Time Lord at some point in the foreseeable. Many have suggested that Steven Moffat is using this as a way to "test the waters", as it were, but he probably did it because it's an interesting story. Some fans will be keeping their bunting on stand by until they can proudly proclaim that the show has finally got with the times but, amidst all the speculative discussion, bear in mind that Peter Capaldi is still very much the Doctor for the time being so it's probably best for everyone to just sit back and enjoy the ride while it lasts. There's plenty of time to argue about the future so let's not wish our lives away just yet.
