10 Things That Every Parent Of A Doctor Who Fan Should Know

5. Don't Expect Them To Enjoy Classic Who

If your children love Missy then you may want to introduce them to Roger Delgado, the original Master. However you are likely to discover that they find Classic Who almost laughable. This may hurt but it's understandable. It€™s fair to say that the quality of the show was uneven back then. In fact the worst of NuWho would rate as a decent story by comparison. Even when watching gems like Genesis of the Daleks children are unlikely to be captivated. They haven€™t grown to know this strange Doctor so he€™s a curiosity from the past. The plots are often repetitive and strung out in order to crowbar in those much-loved cliffhangers. Worst of all, suspension of disbelief will be impossible. The special effects will be like nothing they€™ve ever seen. Even the Daleks look as if they€™d be skittled by an inflatable beach ball. Kids will also wonder why the Doctor tolerated some of his earlier companions. Half of them do little but scream, fall down and get captured. Bring in wobbly sets, all-too-common bad acting and you€™re on a loser. Wait until your children grow into their late teens and become chin-strokey art-types. They might then see past the rust and come to appreciate the gold beneath the episodes you love.

Older than some and taller than most. Grey of eye and white of beard. Stephen's book 'Hiding', about a boy who meets a goblin in a local wood, is available to download from the usual places. Think of it as a scavenger hunt.
