3. Lady Mary Picks A Man
Continuity puritans mightn't necessarily love this idea, but our ideal situation for the future of the series would be Matthew Crawley stumbling into Downton Abbey and announcing "oh dear, I know you all thought I was dead but actually I'm not. What a dreadful misunderstanding. Still, no harm done. Tea, anyone?", with he and Lady Mary picking up where they left off and no one ever speaking of his time away ever again. Unfortunately, Matthew's death in last year's Christmas special (ding dong merrily on high, indeed...) more or less closed the door on his character's involvement in the show, which leads us to plan B. By the end of series 4 Lady Mary had not one but two eligible bachelors chasing her in the form of Lord Gillingham and Mr. Blake. In the future we'd like to see her choose between them, although admittedly it will be a difficult decision because the two men are basically identical.
