10 Things You Didn't Know About The Expanse

2. The People Responsible

The original writer of the series, James S. A. Corey, is actually two writers in a trench-coat trying to sneak into Amazon Prime's offices. Well, perhaps it isn't quite like that, but this is certainly the spirit of a pen-name.

The two individuals that make up this suspiciously tall figure are one Daniel JAMES Abraham and Ty COREY Franck (see what they did there?), who began collaboratively writing the first book to be published in 2011.

Each one had a background in writing; Abraham having penned a fantasy series under another pseudonym (M. L. N. Hanover) as well as several other fictions and comic books, and Franck having been the assistant to George R. R. Martin during his acclaimed A Song of Ice and Fire series.

When we consider how the last few Seasons of Game of Thrones turned out, and that The Expanse is quickly catching up with its source material, we should be thankful that four hands write faster than two.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
