10 Times Doctor Who Appeared Where You'd Least Expect

2. In An Unofficial Zygon Softcore Film

A project you can file straight under "WTF" and "why did someone make this", Zygon: When Being You Just Isn't Enough holds the noteworthy record of being - as one reviewer put it - "the only Zygon-based soft-porn film ever to have been made."

Unfortunately for our eyeballs, that description is completely accurate. Made in 2008 by the independent company BBV Productions, Zygon is an unofficial Doctor Who spinoff in which those famous baddies titillate plenty of fronds while in human form.

Intended to be viewed as a serious drama rather than the pure cheese that it actually comes off as, the film, thankfully, doesn't get too graphic with its sexual content - but let's just say it's rated 18 for a reason. It even got a proper DVD release too, although copies of that disc are difficult to find if for some reason you want to add it to your collection.

In retrospect, director Bill Baggs described the project as a "mistake" - which feels like a bit of an understatement if you ask us - and the Zygons made their proper Doctor Who return in 2013's The Day of the Doctor.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
