10 Times Doctor Who Was Accused Of Having A Hidden Agenda

3. The Gay Agenda

Tumblr Nat7tiozc21ris3o5o1 500 Gif Oh, Vastra. You big old flirt, you! This is the moment from Series 8's premiere Deep Breath that single handedly managed to get tongues wagging - *ahem* - all across the globe. OK, so a grand total of 6 people actually took the time out of their lives to complain about it in the UK, but the point still stands. Never mind the fact that the episode in question was introducing the world to Peter Capaldi as the brand new Doctor, an unadulterated lesbian kiss between two of the show's most popular characters was what dominated the headlines after its initial broadcast. As it turns out, everybody and their mother had something to say about the show's latest dabble in the realms of pre-watershed promiscuity, and to say that it was controversial would be the understatement of the century. In fact, the scene was even banned from some countries which means that there are far too many people out there who never got to experience the wonders of Vastra and Jenny's "oxygen transfer" (thank God for Google, eh?!). It added to the long standing accusations that the BBC are using Doctor Who to convey their "gay agenda" by promoting a "pro-gay bias" through characters such as the omnisexual Captain Jack Harkness and... oh, that's about it. Seriously. If the image of a lesbian/lizard kiss offends you, you'd best stay away from the fan fiction. Far, far away.
